We're having a band scramble this year. And what, you may ask, is a band scramble?
To participate, go to the registration booth anytime before 5 PM (?) Friday and draw a number. The number will specify which group you'll be working with - 1, 2, 3 and so on. There will be a table designated at dinner for each group and a room designated for practice after dinner; you'll meet for dinner, get to know each other musically, your abilities, instruments, etc. and select a tune you all know. If you play an instrument other than dulcimer, by all means bring it. Bring song lists, volunteer your talents to the group so you'll know what you have to work with. Beginners will get an easier part, more advanced people will have more difficult parts - there's a place for everyone. Take advantage of whatever people have to offer - singers, different instruments, knowledge of a tune or how to play backup, etc. Try to find something different for each person to do. Stretch yourselves, do something you've never done before, give it your all! Bonnie will be available during this time to help each group get started.
No advance preparation is necessary other than to collect a list of all the songs you know, your dulcimer and any other instrument(s) you play and your sense of adventure and be ready to play with people you may have only had a chance to chat with at dinner at previous festivals.
So bring your song lists as well as Dulcimers and any other instrument you may play (would be great to have some guitars, whistle, mandolin, etc. to add to the mix)
After the Saturday morning contest we'll hear a tune from each group. It's not a contest, just a chance to play with new people.
