Erin Mae

February 17, 2021 By Ben Nordman

Welcome to the CDF’s Featured Artist page.  Every so often, during this time when we are not able to gather in person, we want to share the work of some of our favorite artists with you, virtually. We are delighted to feature our fourth Featured Artist, Erin Mae.

Performance

About Erin Mae

If the Colorado Dulcimer Festival were a rodeo (and sometimes it feels that way, at least to the crew), there is no doubt who would be Sweetheart of The Rodeo: Erin Mae. Erin started playing mountain dulcimer at age seven, and at age seventeen became the youngest person to be named National Mountain Dulcimer Champion. She plays her chromatic mountain dulcimer with a passion that she attributes to her faith, and tells us that she played her instrument through every chemotherapy session she endured in her struggle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma ten years ago. Erin’s inspiring music has comforted countless persons who were making their way through difficult times; among other ventures, she has partnered with hammered dulcimer champion Joshua Messick to record a CD called Honest: Songs of Hope, about overcoming darkness. But lest you think she has only this soft side, she can also offer her audiences a rollicking performance that challenges the roof to stay fastened. And she is one of CDF’s favorite teachers.

If you enjoy Erin’s lesson and/or performance here, please consider donating a sum that represents the pleasure and learning you had from the experience. These are hard times for musicians; we hope our Featured Artists series will help replace some of the income our favorite artists have lost during the pandemic.
